Bank Accountant

Location: Sheffield Village
Reports To: Controller

Position Summary
The Bank Accountant is responsible for performing accounting and financial reporting functions that ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the Bank’s financial records. This role supports daily accounting operations, assists in the preparation of financial statements, regulatory reports, and internal management reports, and contributes to maintaining strong internal controls. The Bank Accountant works closely with the Controller and other departments to support the Bank’s financial performance, compliance, and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger, including daily reconciliations of cash, correspondent bank accounts, loan and deposit accounts, and other balance sheet items.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and bank regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of regulatory reports, including the quarterly Call Report and other federal and state banking reports.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes by compiling financial data and monitoring variances.
  • Perform accruals, deferrals, and other adjusting journal entries to ensure accurate financial results.
  • Monitor and reconcile fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and other schedules as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assist with audits and examinations, including preparation of supporting documentation for external auditors and regulators.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting support to management as needed.
  • Participate in special projects or initiatives to improve efficiency, automation, and reporting capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution or public accounting firm.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements for community banks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with core banking/accounting software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Call Report preparation and/or bank regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with Jack Henry and/or other community bank core systems.

Work Environment
This position is full-time, onsite at the Bank’s Operation Center. Occasional overtime may be required during reporting periods, audits, or examinations.
